Join one of our caring teams supporting patients, families and the wider community.
Hospitals and healthcare facilities can be stressful or isolating for some of us. That's where Hato Hone St John Friends of the Emergency Department (FED), Hospital Friends, Hospital Hosts, and Community Carers come in.
There are over 800 FED, Hospital and Community Carer volunteers across Aotearoa, providing Kiwis with a hand to hold and someone to talk to when they need it most.
Friends of the Emergency Department. Emergency departments are busy places where information and support are just as important as treatment. As a FED, you'll provide comfort, reassurance and help to patients and their families, becoming an important part of a hospital's emergency department.
Hospital Friend. As a Hospital Friend, you'll become a familiar face to long-term patients. You'll chat to them, read with them or become a friendly shoulder to lean on when things get tough, helping to make their stay happier and more comfortable.
Hospital Host. Hospitals can be a confusing and daunting place. Our Hospital Hosts welcome visitors at the hospital foyer with a smile and offer a warm welcome, directions, information, and can escort people to their appointments within the hospital.
Community Carer. As a Community Carer, you'll provide care and friendship to residents and patients in rest homes. You might be talking or reading with them, helping with meal delivery or walking with them around the gardens.
We will need to make sure you are in good health and have an understanding, empathetic approach to people of all ages and cultures. We're looking for great listeners who enjoy working with people and who really want to make a difference in someone's life.
