St John announces Cadet of the Year
Sixteen-year-old Sasha Seatter from Rangiora has been awarded the title of St John Cadet of the Year for 2012 / 2013.
Over three days, South Island Regional Cadet of the Year Sasha was put through a tough selection process alongside the Central and Northern Regional Cadets of the Year.
Each cadet presented a solution on new ideas for the St John 3 Steps for Life programme, was interviewed by a panel, had their media skills tested and was challenged to respond instantly to real life scenarios. They were also judged on leadership and teamwork and to top it off, had to bake a cake with one hand!
Sasha is ranked as a sergeant cadet and has achieved the St John Grand Prior’s Award. Since joining St John Youth she has discovered an interest in the medical field and is passionate about working with other young people.
Community Programmes Director Sonya Gale says, “Sasha’s enthusiasm and dedication set a great example for other cadets. She is a fantastic leader who will do a great job representing Youth to the rest of St John and the public.
“I’d like to congratulate all three regional Cadets of the Year who rose to the challenge this weekend and gave it their absolute best. We are proud to have such outstanding individuals in our organisation.”
Sasha will now travel to the St John investiture service in Christchurch in November where the outgoing Cadet of the Year Isaac McFarlane will formally hand over the role.
She has a big year ahead of her and is ready for the challenge of representing St John Youth.
“I enjoy what life offers and the pleasure of meeting people of all ages,” says Sasha. “I’m keeping busy and looking forward to a new challenging year, which includes embarking on a World Challenge programme to Thailand for a month.”
