St John :: Drowning Aid Tips

Drowning

When a patient drowns your safety is paramount. Ensure you do not become a victim yourself.

Drowning kills many New Zealanders every year. You can help by knowing what to do.

  • Remove the patient from the water safely
  • If not breathing, commence CPR
  • Call 111 and ask for ambulance

For comprehensive first aid information please refer to the St John Emergency Handbook. You can also ensure you’re ready to help by completing a St John First Aid course.
