St John :: Friend of the Emergency Department

Friends of the Emergency Department have the opportunity to support both patients, their relatives and medical professionals in a real sense without the need for clinical expertise. As a Friend of the Emergency Department you provide comfort, information and support to patients and their relatives who are awaiting or undergoing treatment in hospital emergency departments. You don't provide medical care to the patients, but instead act in a supportive capacity to comfort the patient and their relatives and allow the medical professionals to concentrate on their clinical activities.

Key requirements are:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • A compassionate and caring nature
  • Tact and sensitivity
  • An appreciation of different cultures and age groups

Once trained as a Friend of the Emergency Department you will be rostered to work varying shifts in a hospital where this service is provided.

If you have what it takes to become a Friend of the Emergency Department phone us toll-free on 0800 ST JOHN (78 5646) or complete the expression of interest form.
