A caring kōrero (chat) can make a difference.

Caring Caller is a free service where our friendly volunteers call lonely people for a catch up, helping them feel less alone. For whānau and friends who don’t live close by, we provide comfort that their loved one has support and friendship.

Caring Caller is a programme led by volunteers who offer friendship to individuals with various health and wellbeing needs. We have standards in place to make sure everyone stays safe, and we always aim to help people in a way that suits them best. If you'd like to learn more about our service standards, feel free to send us an email.

What does a Caring Caller do?

Creates friendships

Our callers often make lasting friendships with their clients based on shared interests like gardening, reading or sport.

Support when needed

Having someone call and ask about your day can make all the difference if you're not well or a bit low, especially if it's hard to go out.

Peace of mind

It's nice to have someone check on you, especially if you don't know many people , or your whānau and friends can't visit much.

It's free

Caring Caller is fully funded by koha (donations) from people who care, so it doesn't cost you anything.

Elderly lady talking on the phone with a caring caller

"My daughter recommended I get a Caring Caller over 12 years ago. I have had the same caller ever since and she has become a wonderful friend. She calls me every week. It's not as lonely having my Caring Caller, we have so much in common. Sometimes it's just nice to know someone is there."  - Mavis
