Hato Hone St John Opportunity Shops are growing at a remarkable rate across the country. This is testament to the tremendous support our communities show for Hato Hone St John as one of New Zealand's most trusted charities.
We're very proud of our amazing Op Shop teams. As well as helping to fund our vital lifesaving services and community initiatives, they have created friendly and supportive community hubs, offering much-needed local services. They even help New Zealand to be more environmentally sustainable – more recycling means less landfill!

There's plenty of variety in this role. You could be doing anything from serving customers and cash handling to sorting donated goods, visual merchandising or tidying the store.
We're looking for caring individuals keen to give back to their community. Although retail experience is great, it is not essential. If you're keen to learn, enthusiastic and reliable, then we can teach you the skills you need. You need to be at least 16 years old and be either a NZ Citizen, permanent resident or hold a visa that allows you to live and work in NZ (e.g. work permit, some study visas).
This varies between locations, but most of our stores are looking for people who can spare four hours a week (one half-day shift) and ideally able to commit for 12 months.
Hato Hone St John volunteers are entitled to a number of benefits including free ambulance services for themselves and their immediate family, discounted first aid training, and great deals at a number of retailers and organisations throughout New Zealand.
Our volunteers tell us they get huge satisfaction from knowing their work contributes to our essential services, and they also love feeling part of a friendly, welcoming team. Have a look at this video to find out more.
