Andrew joined St John as a Volunteer Ambulance and Events officer in 1987 and continued that for 23 years. In that time, he joined the local Area Committee which is still a member of and having chaired it for 12 years. He also was an elected member of the South Island Regional Trust Board for 9 years and has been an elected Chapter member since 2017. He was promoted to Commander in 2013 and appointed chair of the Chapter sub-committee of Order Affairs in 2018.

Andrew manages a family owned and operated Agricultural contracting business and he and his wife Jenny have 2 adult children.
