What is a medical alarm?

The St John Medical Alarm consists of a base unit that either connects to your home phone line or to the cellular (mobile) network, and a small pendant that you wear.

If you need medical assistance at any time of the day or night, simply press the button on your pendant.  It means you don’t have to get to the phone to dial 111 for assistance which is helpful if you have an emergency while in the shower or garden for instance.

The request for assistance comes directly through to your medical alarm supplier (in the case of a St John Medical Alarm this will be St John). You will be called back to check if you are ok.  If you confirm that you need assistance, St John will organise the most appropriate help for your situation.  If there is no reply, an ambulance will be despatched immediately.

Our St John reps can help you choose the medical alarm that’s best for you or your loved ones needs. All St John Medical Alarms are monitored by St John 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What happens in an emergency?

In an emergency push the button on your pendant

We will call you back and talk through the speaker on the alarm to check if anything is wrong.  St John will then organise the most appropriate help for your situation.  If there is no reply when we call back, an ambulance will be dispatched immediately.

The trained response personnel arriving at your home will already be aware of your name and other important information.

Is the St John Medical Alarm the same as a Lifelink alarm?

Yes it is.  St John has rebranded its medical alarm service from St John Lifelink™ medical alarms to St John Medical Alarms.  This was undertaken to more clearly and simply communicate that the medical alarm is supplied by St John. There are no changes to the service offered as a result of the rebrand exercise.

Can we buy the alarm?

Unfortunately no.  We rent out the alarm to you, so you avoid a large upfront cost.  All maintenance and service costs are also covered by us.

Some people qualify for medical alarm funding from Work and Income under the Disability Allowance. This could cover up to the full cost of the medical alarm.

For more up to date information on the Disability Allowance and possible medical alarm funding, go to www.workandincome.govt.nz or call the Work and Income contact centre on 0800 559 009.

What is the free trial period all about?

We offer a FREE trial period to our clients, so you can experience the benefits of a St John Medical Alarm before outlaying any money.

For clients who fund their alarm, the first payment date is up to but no more than one month from the installation date of the medical alarm. For Government funded clients, the first fortnightly payment is due on the funding date that falls closest to the one month period but will be no more than one month.

E.g. St John installs a medical alarm at Mrs Jones home on July 7, the Government funding payments fall fortnightly on the 12th of July, 26th of July, 9th of August and so on. The first payment date for Mrs Jones will be the 26th of July as the 9th of August is greater than 1 month from the install date.

During the FREE trial period the client receives the full entitlement of a paying client including free emergency ambulance services if needed.

If the client cancels this agreement during the up to one month FREE trial period, St John will remove the alarm unit, transmitter and all peripherals at no cost to the Client, and no amount will be payable to St John as a result of the cancellation.

The one month free trial offer applies only once per customer. Other conditions apply.
