Developing Clever Little Life Savers

The ASB St John in Schools programme aims to develop confident young Kiwi kids who care for the health and wellbeing of their communities. Our sessions deliver positive learning experiences to empower children to prevent injuries and respond to emergencies.

St John is committed to strengthening resilience and improving health and wellbeing in our community and recognise that children of all ages could make a life-saving difference in an emergency.

We visit schools across New Zealand training pre-school, primary and intermediate school-aged children to be clever little lifesavers. The programme is also available in Te Reo for all kura and kohanga reo.

What happens in a typical ASB St John in Schools session?

One of our trained Community Educators, in consultation with the school, plans and delivers an engaging, interactive session. The programme has been developed with expertise from ACC, SafeKids Aotearoa, Civil Defence, CORE Education and St John and supports today’s school curriculum. This takes place onsite at the school to a class or group of classes.

Modules on offer within the programme include:

Our sessions are between 45-90 minutes and modules are specifically designed to cater to all different age groups and learning abilities.

What is the cost?

There is no official cost for the ASB St John in Schools programme.  We’re thankful for the support of our partners ASB and ACC who help make this programme possible.  However donations are greatly appreciated to assist us in reaching more tamariki, as our sponsorship does not cover the full cost of delivering this programme.

We believe every child should have access to basic first training to help improve equitable health outcomes in all of New Zealand. Our aim is to train 1 million Kiwi kids in first aid over the next few years.  Please help support the growth of this programme, donate today
