We simply couldn’t deliver our life-changing health and community services without the support of our incredible volunteers.

We first started as a voluntary organisation and still today 70% of our workforce are volunteers. So, we mean it when we say they're the lifeblood of our organisation.

They're a mighty team of 8000 amazing people doing important mahi in all sorts of different roles from driving health shuttles to teaching first aid, helping in our retail stores, and visiting people in care homes. We couldn't do the mahi without them, and we are always keen to see that our volunteers enjoy the benefits of their involvement too.

We have a range of volunteer programmes and many different roles. Everything from ambulance operations to event health services, Friends of the Emergency Department to community education and more. We even have a role for our four-legged friends as part of our Therapy Pets programme.

Our Volunteer Sustainability Strategy

Just as our volunteers are driven by a genuine desire to help others and to care for their communities, we are serious about the wellbeing of our volunteers. Our Volunteer Sustainability Strategy outlines what we're doing to support, value and grow the skills of people who contribute their time to help their communities across Aotearoa.
