Ronnie and Nanette Nathoo

The Nathoo family have a long history of supporting St John. Sadness struck with the passing of Nanette's beloved mother Maniben Daya in 2014 and then the sudden, tragic death of Nanette and Ronnie's 28 year old youngest son Prasant Nathoo.

The Nathoo family, who have been regular St John supporters, had donations ‘in lieu of flowers’ go to St John at both funerals.

After the one year anniversary of Prasant’s passing, the Nathoo family visited North Shore ambulance station to see first-hand how their decision helped raise funds towards vital lifesaving equipment.

“Through our personal experience, we have had amazing service from St John every single time,” said Anil, the family’s eldest son.

Nanette recommends choosing St John to other families thinking of donations ‘in lieu of flowers’ at the funeral of their loved one. Beginning in 1974 after Nanette’s father was involved in a fatal bus accident, friends and family were encouraged to give donations ‘in lieu of flowers’ in his memory to St John.

“People don’t realise what is behind the lights and sirens, donations go a lot further than flowers. If the memory of our passed family member can help others then that is really something special,” Nanette said.
