Leaving a lasting legacy to St John

Robbie Walker |

Auckland resident and retired teacher, Kay McCarthy, has been a supporter of St John for many years.  Not only is she a member of the St John Supporter Scheme, she also gives a monthly donation and has decided to leave a gift in her will to the organisation.

Kay has always been community minded, supporting numerous charities throughout her working career and retired life. Kay has had to call on St John for an ambulance a few times and understands that St John is a charity. She decided to make sure there is a donation to be left for the organisation in her will.

“It’s something I think everyone should do.  If everyone treated everyone like they would like to be treated then the world would be a better place,” said Kay.

Understanding that a bequest doesn’t affect her current financial situation is also important to Kay.  “I am proud to support the charities who mean something to me in a way that works for my situation.”

St John Northern Region Fundraising and Marketing Manager Hannah Davies says it is ‘Include a Charity Week’ (which ran from 5-11 September), a campaign that raises public awareness of the importance of bequests, or charitable gifts in wills.

“It really is a life legacy to be proud of and we are incredibly thankful to the generous and forward thinking individuals like Kay who choose to support St John in this way. It’s a legacy that will continue to help the local community,” Hannah added.
