Myth: If a bleed doesn’t stop, you should just keep adding padding and elevate the limb.

Mythbuster: If a bleed doesn’t stop, you should just keep adding padding and elevate the limb

Apply firm pressure over the wound. Use a preferably clean cloth or pad and apply it firmly with hand pressure. If it does not stop bleeding, apply more pressure. You can use a bandage to keep the dressing in place. Raise the limb in a supported position if providing elevation does not reduce your ability to provide direct pressure, or cause undue pain or injury to the patient.
