Michelle’s role in Hato Hone St John is Pou Takawaenga / Maori Liaison Officer covering the South Island for Hato Hone St John. She was previously the South Island Regional Youth Manager for Hato Hone St John, and she has also worked as a Maori Health Advisor for Ashburton and Rural Health Services, CDHB and a Whanau Social Worker with Presbyterian Support based in Ashburton.

This is a new role for Hato Hone St John and it has taken a while to develop and to implement but it is finally here. There are three regions in Aotearoa and each region now has a Pou Takawaenga Maori.

Michelle is excited to go out in to the community and reconnect with Iwi, hapu and whanau and is also looking forward to working towards improving Maori health outcomes in a collaborative way with other Maori Health workers, managers, and providers.
