Richard is Patron of the Northern Region. A role that sees him attending many events and functions across all areas of Hato Hone St John.

He joined Hato Hone St John on the Northern Region Trust Board in 2003. Subsequently, he became Chairman of Northern Region and has served on the Priory Trust Board and on Chapter. He re-joined Chapter as an elected member in 2021.

After four years as an international trainee for the Hoover Company, Richard worked for Fisher & Paykel for over 30 years. His many roles encompassed building relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders including staff, retailers, investors both in NZ and internationally. He left the company when it separated into two companies: Appliances and Healthcare in 2001.

His subsequent career has focussed on giving back to the community. He has 40 years experience in governance roles in a number of national charities. Hato Hone St John is a big part of that life.

He is divorced with two children, Henry and Alice, and two grand-children.
