First aid tutor spotlight: Rodney Franzoi Haley Hobson | Thursday 14 December 2017 When did you first join St John? I had brief stint with St John about 19 or 20 years ago then joined again as a First Responder in Waihi Beach during 2013. I worked out of Waihi station and did some shifts at Katikati as well. I had been a volunteer fire fighter for a while and it seemed like a natural progression to join St John. What is your current/main role at St John? My full time role is a first aid tutor, I teach all across Auckland and the Hauraki Coromandel District. Where did you grow up? I grew up in a town called Randburg, just north of Johannesburg in South Africa. What’s the best thing about your role? I love the satisfaction of seeing people who were unsure about providing first aid at the start of a course, leaving at the end of the day feeling confident in their ability after realising that it's not too scary or complicated. What makes you proudest to work or volunteer for St John? We have an amazing team in first aid training and I really enjoy being part of an organisation that is well respected in the community. Whether I'm teaching, volunteering or on an ambulance; I'm proud to wear the uniform and represent St John to the best of my ability. What do you like to do in your spare time? I'm not sure what spare time is, but I'm a bit of a sci-fi geek so I like to relax by watching Star Trek, Doctor Who, Sherlock and Supernatural. I enjoy spending time with my boys a lot as well.
