Outreach Therapy Pets ia an animal-assisted therapy to promote emotional wellbeing in hospitals and rest homes. Please refer to the questions and answers below for any questions you may have.
Outreach Therapy Pets is a joint venture between Auckland SPCA and St John. The Programme is currently delivered in Waihi, Bay of Islands and the greater Auckland area. Outreach Therapy Pets involves people and animal volunteers visiting rest homes, hospitals and other establishments to bring comfort to residents and patients. It harnesses the special human/animal bond that exists within us all.
Two kinds of therapy are offered through the programme: animal assisted activity and animal assisted therapy. A variety of animals are involved - cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, hens, donkeys and miniature horses.
You can call St John toll free on 0800 ST JOHN (0800 78 56 46), send an email to enquiries@stjohn.org.nz or complete an online request. Someone from our community programmes team will be in touch to talk through the process.
