The development programmes we run for young people - ages 6 to 18 - have the right balance of education and fun. Please refer to the questions and answers below for any questions you may have.

Does St John have any programmes for children?

For New Zealand to have strong communities that are healthy and care for each other, we must invest in young people. At Hato Hone St John we do just that.  Our St John youth Programmes is designed to provide opportunities for young people to learn, develop leadership skills and grow their confidence, all within a curriculum that is fun vibrant and educational.

Are there any St John Youth groups in my area?

Who can join St John Youth?

St John Youth is for anyone who wants to learn new things, meet new people and have a lot of fun along the way!  St John Youth offers two unique programmes - our Penguin programme for 6-8 year olds and our Cadet programme for 8-18year olds.

If you are over 18 years of age, but still interested in joining a youth programme, check out ourleaders page.

How do I get an information pack sent to me?

You can request an information pack by either emailing youth@stjohn.org.nz or calling us on 0800 ST JOHN.  Alternatively, feel free to check out our youth website, which may be able to answer some of your questions in the meantime.

Is there a cost?

There is a one off joining fee of $25, then an ongoing cost of $25 per term, per child. We charge extra activity fees for camps, visits or other activities, these costs will vary depending on the activity.

Fees assistance is available to ensure cost is not a barrier to participation in the St John youth Programme.

How will I know St John offers a safe environment for my child?

At Hato Hone St John we take pride in providing a safe learning environment for our members.  We have a robust child youth protection policy that is supported by good leader recruitment procedures and training for all our leaders.  If you would like to know more, visit our youth website or ask your local St John youth Divisional Manager for a copy of the policy. Your local Divisional Manager can also talk you through this policy and how we apply it.
