Including St John first aid training in your workplace health and safety programme helps you to meet your obligations and show employees that you’re concerned about their wellbeing.
Identifying requirements for your workplace
Every workplace has different levels of risk. Before you select first aid training courses and equipment for your workplace, you should consult the Worksafe requirements. Put together by Worksafe in consultation with a range of specialists, this guide provides a risk assessment tool that helps you to correctly identify first aid training requirements, the number of first aiders you’ll need, and what type of first aid equipment you should have. We can also help you with this – just give us a call.
The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) also offers guidance on workplace first aid courses, as well as who can provide those courses. Hato Hone St John meets all of the NZQA requirements.
Choosing first aid courses
Once you’ve used the Worksafe assessment tool, you can choose St John courses that will suit the needs of your workplace. We have regularly scheduled courses that are held at our premises throughout New Zealand. Alternatively, we can provide a course just for your employees, at your place or ours.
Some of our courses are specifically designed to meet the needs of workplace first aiders, for example:
- First Aid Level One, the standard first aid course for the workplace, takes one day to complete and includes NZQA unit standards 6401, 6402
- First Aid Level Two, a 12-hour course that includes NZQA unit standards 6400, 6401, 6402.
- we also have courses specifically for dental/medical workers
