Yes you can up to 24 hours before your course, by contacting the call centre on 0800 FIRST AID. Terms and conditions apply. After this time you may be charged again.
Some of the visual presentations used on courses may cause distress as they depict first aid situations that may trigger an emotional response. If this happens please talk to your tutor, they are trained to assist you in this situation and can provide contacts for support agencies that may be able to help you.
The majority of the course is practical and involves group participation. Practice during the class involves touching and being touched. You will be required to demonstrate to the tutor that you are physically able to perform set first aid tasks. If you are unable to perform first aid for the tutor to assess competency, then you may not meet the requirements for the First Aid Certificate.
If you have any disabilities or illness, which you feel may affect your performance during the course, please contact the Hato Hone St John office where you registered to discuss this prior to the course commencement date. We have a ‘Safe-kids’ programme which is suited to for children aged 3 to 14. You can view all the information on the St John Safe-kids programmes here. Alternatively, we runs a youth programme to help young people learn about first aid and other life skills. View the St John youth website here.
Your first aid certification is valid for two years.
