Caring Caller is a free friendship telephone service where volunteers regularly phone clients for a friendly catch up.
Whether it’s sharing interests like gardening or sport, or just being a friendly voice, our Caring Caller volunteers provide a wonderful community service and these conversations often grow into lasting friends

What does a Caring Caller do?
Creates friendships
Our volunteers often make lasting friendships with the people they connect with, sharing conversations based on shared interests like gardening, reading or sport.
Offers support when it’s needed
A simple call and a friendly voice can make all the difference, especially when someone isn’t feeling their best, or it’s hard to get out and about.
Provides peace of mind
It's comforting to have someone check in regularly, particularly for people who live alone or don’t see whānau and friends as often as they’d like.

We're looking for people who can give some time each week and create lasting friendships. As a Caring Caller, you’ll be matched with someone that shares similar interests to you.
As a Caring Caller, you'll:
Make regular calls on agreed days for a friendly chat .
Provide reassurance to someone who needs it.
Build a meaningful connection, often leading to lasting friendships.

- How long do I need to be a Caring Caller?
We ask volunteers to call regularly and commit to at least 12 months. This helps build a genuine and trusted connection over time with the people you're calling.
- Do you provide training and support?
Yes, we provide ongoing guidance training and support for all our Caring Callers.
- What do I need to become a Caring Caller?
You’ll also need to be a New Zealand citizen or hold a valid NZ work or residence visa.
All volunteers will also complete a Police check.
