Look out for ambulances to save critical seconds.

Drivers are being reminded to keep an eye out for the flashing red lights of ambulances to help save critical seconds for seriously ill patients.

That is the message from St John Regional Operations Manager, Murray Holt.

Mr Holt says soundproofing and music in modern cars means some drivers do not hear the sirens on ambulances heading to emergencies or transporting patients.

"Being aware of other vehicles around you is vital. If we are stuck at lights for a couple of minutes it makes a difference.  Drivers can help us out, especially in peak hour traffic, by safely pulling to the left when they see the lights or hear the sirens."

"Every second counts if you have a critically ill patient," says Mr Holt.
