HATO HONE ST JOHN WELCOMES RECOMMENDATIONS ON AGED CARE

AMY MILNE |

Hato Hone St John welcomes the Aged Care Ministerial Advisory Group’s recommendations on aged care.

Jon Moores, Hato Hone St John Deputy Chief Executive Clinical Services, says the review recognises the urgent need to proactively plan for the care needs of an ageing population.

“Over the next twenty years we will see a significant increase in demand for aged care services, and it is right that we focus on solutions that will ensure our kaumātua, elders, and their carers have better access to care that is appropriate for their needs.

“On behalf of Hato Hone St John, I would like to acknowledge the considerable efforts of the Advisory Group and the time, energy and commitment that has gone into preparing this report. There is a considerable amount of information to consider, and we look forward to working with our partners and stakeholders.”

Hato Hone St John also welcomes the focus on reducing hospital stays, reducing pressure on emergency departments, and recognising opportunities for improvement in home and primary care.

“We also want to acknowledge and thank the considerable efforts of service providers in the aged care sector and the report’s emphasis on supporting the aged care workforce,” says Mr Moores.

“As an organisation, we are keen to play our part through both our ambulance and community health services and look forward to reviewing the report in detail and looking for opportunities to improve care for older people.”
