Media Update - St John Response to Earthquake (4pm, 18 Nov)

St John continues to coordinate its earthquake response at a national and local level, managing Canterbury, Kaikoura and surrounding affected areas as we transition from the rescue and response phase to the recovery phase.

We continue to work with Civil Defence and other health and emergency agencies, including supporting Wellington Free Ambulance as required in Wellington and the Wairarapa.  We continue to move and deploy staff and resources as required and have distributed a large number of satellite phones to St John personnel in key areas to improve resilience.

St John continues to carry out staff welfare checks, and assess its ambulance stations and buildings for safety.

Thank you to everyone who has been supporting our national frontline response – from ambulance and operations personnel through to community volunteers, office workers, support staff and the public.
