They may not be the most talkative, however the latest supporters of St John are certainly the cuddliest and most glamorous.

St John is one of charities supported by next weekend’s (21-22 July) National Bear and Doll Show. (Breast Cancer Research is the other charity.)  The Show is run in Christchurch by the Christchurch Doll Club.

Cuddly bears and elegant dolls of all shapes and sizes will be on display at the Horticultural Centre on Riccarton Avenue.  There will be raffles, dolls, bears and craft supplies for sale.

The theme for this year is ‘black and white’; this is a special section for the public to vote on entries.  There will also be free mask making for children.

Paula Hemingway, Christchurch Doll Club spokesperson, said some Christchurch Doll Club members and volunteers had lost or damaged homes after the Christchurch earthquakes.  “However, we are putting all that aside and with the help of our brave out-of-town stall holders from Auckland to Invercargill we hope to inject some warm fuzzies into Canterbury.”

Christine Prince, St John Customer and Services Manager, said the generosity of the Christchurch Doll Club was appreciated.  “This is a chance for everyone to see some really elegant dolls and also cuddle up to some teddy bears.  Who doesn’t like cuddling a teddy bear?”
