THREE INJURED BY FIREWORKS

Victoria Hawkins |

St John ambulance crews attended three firework related incidents last night.

All three occurred in the North Island, two involving children, and two patients were left in a serious condition.

A six year-old girl from Mt Wellington was transported to Starship Hospital in a moderate condition at 8pm while an eight-year old girl from Northcote was also transported to Starship in a serious condition around 10pm.

A 23-year-old male from Kawarau was also seriously injured by fireworks and transported to Whakatane Hospital around 10pm.

St John urges people to be sensible around fireworks, have a bucket of water close at hand and run cool water over a burn for at least 20 minutes.  If the burn is more serious, call 111 immediately.
